Term Insurance serves as a financial safety net to help cover or supplement expenses left behind, including funeral and burial costs, medical expenses, housing, living expenses, education, and your spouse or partner’s retirement.
Term Life Insurance offers extensive coverage at an affordable cost. Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, known as AD&D, matches your Term Life Benefit in case of a covered accident leading to your death. It may also provide partial benefits for severe physical loss, such as a hand, a foot, or eyesight.
Term life insurance provides financial protection for the term of your policy. If someone relies on you for financial support—like a spouse, children, or even a partner—it ensures they’re taken care of if you’re no longer around. It can help cover expenses like replacing your income, paying off a mortgage, or future costs like college tuition.

As a new NYSPIA member, you’re eligible to apply. For 60 days, you can secure coverage up to set limits for you and your family without having to answer questions about your medical history.
During Open Enrollment:
Members: Up to $200,000 without disclosing medical history
Spouse/Domestic Partner: Up to $50,000
Children: $4,000 per child
You can increase your coverage beyond these limits (up to the maximum of $750,000 for members) at any time with a Medical History Statement approval.
AD&D insurance is automatically included with your term life plan. It provides extra financial protection in case of an accidental death by doubling the face value of your policy. It also pays benefits for specified injuries, like losing a limb or vision, based on the severity of the injury.

Premiums for members and spouses/domestic partners are based on the member’s age. They’re adjusted every five years as you move into a new age band and are updated annually on the policy’s anniversary.
Yes. If you’re eligible for a New York State Retirement Benefit, you can continue your coverage under the same rate schedule as before retirement.
If you become totally disabled before age 60, you may qualify to have your premiums waived after a 6-month waiting period (during which you’ll continue paying premiums). This waiver continues until you return to work, fail to provide proof of continuing disability, or turn 65.
Yes. If you get married, have a child, or legally adopt, you can add your spouse/domestic partner or child to your coverage without proof of good health—provided you do so within 30 days of the event.
Coverage begins the day you apply, as long as no Medical History Statement is required. If a Medical History Statement is needed, your coverage starts the first day of the calendar month after the insurance carrier approves your application. If you’re not actively at work due to illness or injury on the effective date, coverage will begin on the first day you return to work.
You can name anyone as your beneficiary, including multiple beneficiaries. You’ll automatically be the beneficiary for the coverage purchased for your dependents.
With affordable rates and added benefits like AD&D and the Waiver of Premium, this plan makes it easy to provide financial security for your loved ones. It’s support you can count on when it matters most.
